Bradley Cooper is making his directorial debut with A Star is Born coming to theaters in October 2018.

A Star is Born has been made several times already, beginning with the original film in 1937 starring Janet Gaynor and Frederic March. In the 1954 remake, starred Judy Garland and James Mason; while the 1976 version starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Now, a new remake is in the works, this time starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

The overall story of the films never change, although the character names have… a bit. Gaynor played Esther who went by Vicki, Garland played Vicki, and Streisand played Esther; a character who is a quickly rising star in her field. Vicki/Esther falls in love with Norman/John (March and Mason played Norman while Kristofferson played John Norman), who is watching his career decline. Although they are desperately in love, their career highs and lows put a lot of strain on the relationship.

In the upcoming, 2018 remake, the story is relatively the same and this time Bradley Cooper stars as Jackson and Lady Gaga stars as Ally. Also appearing in the remake is Sam Elliot, Dave Chappelle, and (weirdly enough) Andrew Dice Clay.

Being a fan of both the 1954 and 1976 version, I’m a little nervous for another remake but admittedly, this trailer puts my mind at ease. I’m a big fan of Cooper and I think Lady Gaga is extremely talented so I’m willing to give this version a shot. Are you? Watch the trailer and decide for yourself:
