American Son is a contemporary play about race and today’s society, starring Kerry Washington and Jeremy Jordan.
American Son, a new, hit play by contemporary playwright, Christopher Demos-Brown, officially opens at Broadway’s The Booth Theatre on November 4th. The play finds a separated, interracial couple in a Florida police station looking for answers regarding their missing son.
The Broadway production boasts an all-star cast including Kerry Washington (Scandal, Django Unchained) and Steven Pasquale (Rescue Me, American Crime Story). Also performing are theater-veterans Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, Supergirl) and Eugene Lee (Fences, Two Trains Running).
The premise of American Son is a poignant one in today’s society. Kendra Connor (Washington) arrives early at a Miami police station after learning her son was pulled over by the police. The longer Kendra waits, the more concerned she becomes – her son is half-black and interacting with police in southern America.
Directed by Kenny Leon, American Son is a startling and profound play that will keep you thinking long after the curtain closes. Buy your tickets now – this production is only running through the end of January!
