Day Zero, the day that Cape Town was supposed to run out of water, has come and gone; how did this South African city avoid an apocalyptic disaster?
The Guardian released a video, Day Zero: how Cape Town stopped the taps running dry, which explains how the city of Cape Town narrowly avoided running out of water. Back in January, it was decided that due to years of drought the water taps would run dry in February; and then it was July. Now, due to mandatory water-rationing, that date has been pushed back to 2019.
In the video below, residents of Cape Town take the time to explain how they’ve adapted to the resource crisis. It’s clear that many are making the best of an unthinkable situation – the only way they know how. All anyone can do is try to be mindful of the water they use and hope for the drought to break.
