In my life of loving desserts, I’ve never tried baked vanilla yogurt before. When I first found this recipe for a baked vanilla yogurt with hibiscus poached pears I wasn’t sure what to think. I’m a big fan of all the ingredients and I’m always excited about healthy desserts… but yogurt for dessert?! Yes please!
Baked yogurt is a popular dish in certain areas of the world, so when Joanne from Olive and Mango moved to Canada from Trinidad, she wanted to find a way to celebrate some of the common flavors she’d left behind. Pairing hibiscus pears with the creamy Greek yogurt was the perfect combination for a delicious treat reminiscent of Trinidad.
To whip your healthy, creamy yogurt and poached pears dish, make sure you have all the ingredients listed below:
- 2 cups Greek yogurt
- 1 cup condensed milk
- 1/4 cup milk powder
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1/2 tsp orange zest
- 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers (or contents of 2 hibiscus tea bags)
- 2 star anise
- 5 cardamom pods
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 5 cloves
- 1/3 cup honey
- orange peel
- 1/2 cup of wine
- 6 small or medium sized pears
