Janelle Monáe pays tribute to Janet Jackson, Prince and James Brown in a performance of “Make Me Feel” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Dirty Computer, the latest album release from Janelle Monáe, is filled with homages to great musical styles and legends of the past; and no song does it better than “Make Me Feel.” Recently, Monáe appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and gave an inspiring performance of the song.

In the performance below, Monáe begins with a visual tribute to Janet Jackson in the 80s and early 90s but quickly swings into a song that could be the love child of Jackson and Prince. And while Monáe looks almost identical to Jackson, her back-up dancers visually look like they should be in a Prince video. It’s a perfect blend. And if that wasn’t enough, watch for Monáe to break it down with a little James Brown toward the end!
