When I hear the name Marilyn Monroe, I think of a steam vent and that singular, iconic, white dress. What I don’t think of is a potato sack!

As the story goes, Marilyn Monroe once attended a lavish, Hollywood party during the height of her career. When she arrived, she was wearing a beautiful, somewhat-revealing, red dress. The dress drew the attention of many, including an uptight, female reporter.

The reporter was so offended that she later printed derogatory remarks about Monroe and the dress in her column. She commented that Monroe would’ve looked better wearing a potato sack. She had no idea what kind of response she would get!

Twentieth Century Fox took advantage of the media attention and Marilyn Monroe happily went along for the ride. The movie studio set up the infamous photo shoot of Monroe, wearing only a potato sack. And she looked stunning!
