“We serve spicy punk food at Hard Times Christmas Liquors at The Sunset Bar; that’s what we do.” – Matt Klein, Chef/Partner
If you’re heading to the Bushwick area of Brooklyn, New York anytime soon, check out Hard Times Christmas Liquors at The Sunset Bar on Troutman Street. Inside, you’ll find craft beers, cold brew, and unique twists on comfort-style food. The menu can change regularly and pulls influences from all over. Interested in an appetizer? What about the Avocado Tempura Nachos topped with Kimchi queso? Want a unique liquor experience? What about the Bone Marrow Bourbon shot?
The rustic atmosphere is a bit on the hipster side but in my opinion, it works in their favor and fits the incredibly long and weird name of the establishment. The seating area is small so if you’re planning to eat at the restaurant, be prepared for a bit of a wait. If you can’t wait, consider grabbing takeout or ordering in.
One of Hard Times signature dishes is their unique Fried Chicken and Waffles dish that combines cornbread waffles and spicy fried chicken. Ingredients also includes a spicy buttermilk and cornflake batter, Sichuan chili oil, fermented Holland peppers, scallions, roasted corn butter, garlic honey, and coffee maple syrup. If you’re crazy for spice, you can try their “F#&K YOU UP spicy [hot sauce] option”! Recently Thrillist did a profile on both the restaurant and highlighted the fried chicken and waffles, take a look:
