Book Review: Don’t Open Your Eyes by Liv Constantine

This one totally snuck up on me.

I’d been meaning to read something by Liv Constantine for ages—and yes, I know it’s two sisters writing under one name, which somehow makes the drama even more entertaining—but this was my first. It definitely won’t be my last.

At first, Don’t Open Your Eyes feels like your standard life-about-to-unravel setup. Annabelle has the perfect life: an adoring husband, two sweet daughters, and a career she actually likes (rare!). Everything’s great… until the dreams start. Not just weird, hazy dreams, but vivid, unsettling visions of a future where she hates her husband and her daughters are in danger. Naturally, she brushes it off. But then, details from her dreams begin to happen in real life.

To be fair, it took me a minute to settle into the story. The first half moves a little slower than I wanted, and I kept thinking, “Okay, but when does it get twisty?” Answer: halfway through. That’s when it really digs in, and once it does, good luck putting it down.

I thought I knew where this was going. I was ready to feel smug about calling the ending by chapter five. The joke’s on me—because when that twist hit, I legit said, “Wait, WHAT?” out loud. Some of these characters are straight-up devious, and yeah, it dips into soap opera territory at times, but I was absolutely here for it.

It’s a little bit thriller, a little bit domestic suspense, and a whole lot “what would YOU do if you saw your own life falling apart in your dreams?” Perfect for fans of slightly over-the-top drama, slow-burn suspense, and endings that pull the rug out from under you just when you think you’ve got it figured out.

Thank you to NetGalley, and Random House for an advanced reader’s copy; all opinions expressed in this review are my own.
