Bethany Joy Lenz’s memoir, Dinner for Vampires, dives into her One Tree Hill days and unexpected involvement in a cult-like religious group.
Bethany Joy Lenz has written a book that feels tailor-made for someone like me. First of all, I was a fan of One Tree Hill—at least the first half of it. (I never actually finished it, but let’s be honest, after a certain point, it just wasn’t the same.) I still think the school shooting episode is one of the most powerful hours of television ever—well, right up until the whole Dan and Keith showdown. It’s burned into my brain.
Second, I’m low-key obsessed with cults. There’s something so fascinating about what makes them tick, how they lure people in, and what they stand for. Who joins? Who leads? How does it all unravel? I can’t get enough of that stuff. So when I heard Bethany Joy Lenz was not only spilling some One Tree Hill tea but also opening up about her time in a cult-like religious group? I was like, “Take my money!” It shot straight to the top of my to-read list.
I’m opting for the audiobook of Dinner for Vampires because it’s narrated by Bethany Joy Lenz herself, and I’m a sucker for hearing an author’s story in their own voice. It adds a whole new layer to the experience! (Unless you’re Britney Spears and you get Michelle Williams to narrate the voice of 1990s Justin Timberlake. That was just pure genius.)
