Watch one of my favorite emotional scenes from the end of Euphoria’s second season, starring Zendaya and Maude Apatow.
2026 UPDATE: The original video at the end of this post is no longer available. I’ve found a replacement (as long as it’s available), but the quality isn’t great. If you have access, I highly recommend going back and rewatching this scene on an official platform. It’s also worth noting that my love for Euphoria ran out in season 3, but my love for seasons 1-2 still remains.
I love Euphoria. Everyone always talks about the drugs and nudity, which exist, but that’s a minor part of the overall drama series. If you watch, you know how relatable the characters really are. In a final scene from the episode “All My Life, My Heart Has Yearned for a Thing I Cannot Name,” actresses Zendaya and Maude Apatow deliver an understated yet beautiful performance that breaks me every time (and there is no nudity or drugs involved).
Warning: spoilers from the last episode of season 2!
For most of Euphoria’s run, Rue (Zendaya) and Lexi (Apatow) have been former friends and casual acquaintances at best. After Lexi’s original play, based on her real life, opens at school, Rue reconnects with her old friend. Among other subjects, Rue reflects on her father’s death and her own addictions as a result. Her experiences give her a new perspective on Lexi’s absent father. Maybe it’s because I lost my father, which became a very traumatic event in my life, but I cannot watch this scene without crying like a baby. If you’re sensitive to the subject matter or cry for no good reason, you probably still want to watch, but get the tissues now!
(Side note: I think we all know how good Zendaya is now, but don’t sleep on Apatow!)
