Timothée Chalamet is Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown

I love Bob Dylan’s music, so I’m torn about Timothée Chalamet taking on the role of this legendary icon in the upcoming movie A Complete Unknown. I have so many mixed emotions that I’m not even sure where to begin. Let’s dive into my thoughts, and don’t forget to check out the new trailer below!

First, the good stuff. The trailer is stunning; at first glance, it gave me warm, fuzzy feelings. Chalamet captures Dylan’s vibe, look, and style so well that I’m convinced this could be a fantastic movie. And I’ve got to admit; it took me a moment to realize I wasn’t hearing Dylan’s vocals but Chalamet’s—a detail that has me even more excited about the film’s potential. Plus, the supporting cast is stacked, with Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie.

But I do have a few reservations. For starters, I haven’t been super excited about Timothée Chalamet in a while. Don’t get me wrong—he’s consistently great, but that initial spark of excitement for his work has faded for me. That said, if he nails this role, A Complete Unknown might just be the movie that reignites my fandom. My other concern? We only hear him deliver one line in the trailer—just one. Bob Dylan has one of the most distinctive speaking voices ever, and while it’s true that his voice has evolved over time, it’s still unmistakable. I just hope Chalamet’s performance doesn’t come off as a weak impression.

Overall, I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m hoping A Complete Unknown lives up to its potential and that Chalamet’s portrayal of Dylan blows me away—maybe even earns him an Academy Award. But we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, check out the new trailer:
