Peter Dinklage, punk band lead singer? Discover his surprising past with Whizzy, CBGB performances, and how he got his scar, all revealed on Hot Ones!
So you’re telling me that Peter Dinklage—a man who exudes class and charisma on screen—was once the lead singer of a punk-funk-rap band in the 1990s? My brain is having a hard time computing this! For the longest time, I saw him as this incredibly refined actor who probably grew up across the pond, training at the Royal Academy. It’s easy to forget he’s a New Jersey native and currently lives in Brooklyn. And while I always knew he was one of the reasons I loved the somewhat raunchy comedy Death at a Funeral (both versions, obviously); I never pictured him fronting a punk band.
But, surprise! Not only was Dinklage the lead singer, but he also played legendary New York City venues like CBGBs with his group Whizzy. He discussed this during his appearance on Hot Ones, where he stopped by to promote his upcoming comedy Brothers (where he plays Josh Brolin’s twin) and his role in the Wicked movies. He reminisced about his time in the Beastie Boys knockoff band—including how he earned himself a permanent scar.
