Coldplay’s The Karate Kid: Hope, Dreams, and Ralph Macchio

I’ll be honest—Coldplay and I are hit or miss. Some of their songs move me to tears (or get me dancing like a maniac), and others? Well, they’re fine, but they won’t make it onto my playlists anytime soon. That said, I love their newest music video starring none other than the original Karate Kid himself, Ralph Macchio.

Their song “The Karate Kid” seems to be about hope, resilience, and making your dreams come true—or at least that’s my best guess. It has a beautiful melody, but let’s be honest: it’s the music video that makes the song come alive for me.

In the video, Ralph Macchio plays a street musician trying to spread joy and positivity, but no one’s buying what he’s selling. He tries different ways to entertain people, but no matter what he does, everyone keeps walking by. When things hit rock bottom, he finally catches a break—he gets a ticket to a Coldplay concert, and that’s where the magic happens.

At the concert, Chris Martin loses his voice in an Oscar-worthy performance, and Macchio’s character volunteers to step in. Suddenly, he’s in the spotlight, living his dream and giving the performance of a lifetime.

“The Karate Kid,” starring Ralph Macchio, is a beautiful music video with a beautiful message—watch it below:
