Celine Dion Performs “Hymne A L’Amour” at Paris Olympics

Celine Dion has once again demonstrated that despite all her current battles, she remains a powerhouse performer. At this year’s Olympic Games in Paris, France, Dion closed the opening ceremonies with a heartfelt rendition of “Hymne A L’Amour” (famously performed by many artists, but most notably by the incomparable Edith Piaf). While it might not rank among Dion’s most legendary performances, knowing what she’s been through makes it perhaps the most extraordinary of her career.

If you haven’t seen the documentary I Am Celine Dion yet, stop everything and watch it now. The film is not only a celebration of Dion’s illustrious career but also highlights her current struggles with Stiff Person Syndrome, a neurological condition that causes severe muscle spasms and stiffness. This condition has kept her from performing and has significantly affected her vocal quality over the years. After watching the documentary, I wondered if she would ever perform again. So, you can imagine the tears that flowed as she sang her heart out on that Olympic stage.
