Move over, Forrest Gump! There’s a new running legend in town, and his name is Russ Cook, aka Hardest Geezer.
If you haven’t heard of Russ Cook, prepare to have your mind blown. This guy just ran the entire length of Africa. Yes, you read that right—the entire length.of.AFRICA! And no, this isn’t a Hollywood movie plot; it’s a real-life adventure of grit, determination, and a whole lot of sweat.
Russ Cook, also known as Hardest Geezer, is not your typical marathon runner. This guy took on the challenge of running from the southern end of Africa all the way up to the northern tip. We’re talking deserts, jungles, savannas, and everything in between. It’s the kind of adventure that makes a marathon look like a jog in the park.
The Run
Cook began his epic journey in South Africa and ran north. He avoided being shot during a robbery, dealt with severe health issues, braved the Sahara’s desert heat, was held hostage, and more. But despite the hard times, Cook encountered diverse communities, tasted local cuisines, and acquired a lifetime’s worth of stories to tell. And if that wasn’t enough, he also raised money for various charities.
Cook reached the finish line in Tunisia, and the world cheered. His journey covered over 12,000 kilometers (that’s about 7,456 miles for us non-metric folks) and took months of relentless effort. He faced extreme weather conditions, challenging terrains, and severe exhaustion. But in the end, he cemented his place as one of the greatest endurance runners of all time.
