Peach cobbler, cinnamon rolls, and Hawaiian rolls walk into a baking dish. Restraint never stood a chance.
Some recipes are practical.
Some recipes are nutritious.
And some recipes take Hawaiian rolls, fill them with peach cobbler, cover them with cinnamon sugar butter and streusel, and basically dare you to have self-control.
I found these Peach Cobbler Cinnamon Roll Bites from Britney Breaks Bread.
You have my attention.
This Is Not a Subtle Dessert
The first thing I love about this recipe is that it has absolutely no interest in pretending to be sensible.
You start with Hawaiian rolls, hollow out the centers, and brush them with a mix of butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
Inside and out.
(Remember, we’re not here to make cautious decisions.)
The hollowed-out rolls become little edible containers for the peach filling, which is honestly the kind of engineering I can get behind.
The Peach Cobbler Situation
The filling is made with chopped peaches, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, butter, and a little cornstarch to thicken everything up.
Then the pieces of bread you removed from the rolls get mixed into the peaches.
I love this for two reasons.
First, nothing gets wasted.
Second, the answer to “does this dessert need more bread?” is apparently “yes.”
You pile the peach mixture into each roll, and I do mean pile. This is not a restrained little spoonful situation. These things should look like they are barely containing themselves.
Fresh peaches are ideal, but canned peaches work too, which I appreciate because peach season always seems to arrive and disappear before I get organized enough to do anything about it.
And Obviously There Is Streusel
At this point, you might reasonably think the cinnamon-butter-soaked Hawaiian rolls stuffed with peach cobbler have done enough.
You would be wrong.
There is streusel.
A buttery cinnamon streusel goes over the top before everything gets baked until the rolls are golden, the peaches are bubbling, and the entire kitchen smells like you have your life significantly more together than you actually do.
This is exactly the sort of deceptive domestic competence I enjoy.
Why I’m Into This Recipe
I have plenty of respect for desserts that require homemade dough, careful measurements, chilling times, proofing schedules, and the emotional stability necessary to deal with yeast.
I also have a great deal of respect for recipes that say, “Buy the Hawaiian rolls.”
These Peach Cobbler Cinnamon Roll Bites are my kind of shortcut dessert because they still feel fun and special without requiring me to turn baking into a weekend-long character-building exercise.
What more do we really need from dessert?
Britney Breaks Bread says the whole thing takes about an hour, which seems reasonable for something this dramatic.
And yes, you could absolutely serve them with vanilla ice cream.
Hawaiian rolls, peach cobbler, and zero interest in behaving. Here’s the recipe.
