The Hamilton movie is coming to a small screen near you on July 3rd – this is your chance to finally see the original Broadway cast from your own home!
There were two ways to see the original cast of Hamilton live on Broadway: take a chance on the daily lottery or pay a whole lot of money to reserve tickets months in advance. You could also have connections, but how many of us have the clout that Jay-Z and Beyoncé do? For many fans without the means to travel to New York, experiencing the original cast on stage wasn’t an option. Until now!
Initially set to open in theaters, the Hamilton movie will be released on the Disney+ platform starting July 3rd. (For those of us who may have temporarily dropped our Disney+ subscription, now would be a good time to pick it back up again!) The film is a recording of the original cast performing on Broadway before they left their roles for good. This is not a film adaptation, like Rent or Into the Woods; it’s the actual Broadway performance! If you missed the original Broadway cast live on stage, this is the next best thing.
The Hamilton movie features Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom, Jr., Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, Anthony Ramos, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Okieriete Onaodowan, Jasmine Cephas Jones, and Christopher Jackson, among others.
