The Evolution of Alyson Hannigan: From Buffy and Beyond

I was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer die-hard fan, so naturally, I’ve been a huge fan of Alyson Hannigan since I was first introduced to the show. I recognized Hannigan from minor appearances in a few movies, but Buffy was the first time I paid attention. At first, Willow was a comedic sidekick to Sarah Michelle Gellar’s titular character, but as the series progressed, so did Willow. And so did Hannigan. By the time the series ended, it was clear she was a very well-rounded comedic and dramatic actor. But her career has been more than just Buffy, so let’s go back and take a look, shall we?

Not everyone discovered Alyson Hannigan through Buffy; many remember her from the American Pie movie franchise. “This one time, at band camp…” – yeah, you know the line. Working alongside comedy greats like Eugene Levy must have really prepared her for her time on the long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Hannigan made us laugh for nine seasons alongside comedy favorites like Jason Segel, Neil Patrick Harris, and Colbie Smulders.

Outside of Buffy, American Pie, and How I Met Your Mother, Hannigan has had many other exciting smaller roles of note. Did you know she starred in the stage production of When Harry Met Sally in London with Luke Perry? Or that she guest-starred alongside Kristen Bell in Veronica Mars? Or that she married her co-star, Alexis Denisof, after Buffy ended? Find out more, including what she’s doing now, in the video below:
